How the list is put together
Every list starts from the same base: the documents, medication, tech and clothing that no trip works without. On top of that go three sets of modifiers — one for the kind of trip, one for the climate, and one for the length — plus whatever the carry-on, checked bag and children toggles imply.
Quantities scale with duration rather than being fixed, and they stop scaling at about a week. Beyond that the list adds a laundry stop instead of more clothes, because the counts already cover a fortnight with one wash and carrying fourteen outfits is the more expensive way to solve it.
Notes explain why an item is there. That's deliberate: a checklist you can argue with is one you'll actually cut things from, and cutting is the part of packing that most people find hardest.
If you'd rather read the reasoning at length than tick a list, the complete guide to packing for international travel covers the clothing formula, what to leave at home, and the pre-departure routine in full.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need to sign up to use the packing list generator?
No. There is no account, no email address, and no app install required. Pick your trip type, duration and climate, and the list appears immediately — you can print it, copy it, or download it as a text file straight away.
How many clothes should I pack per day?
Fewer than one outfit per day. The generator uses roughly 0.7 tops per day up to a cap of seven, one bottom per two days up to four, and underwear and socks for each day plus one spare. Past about eight days it stops adding clothes and adds a laundry stop instead, because packing two weeks of outfits is heavier than washing once.
What should never go in checked luggage?
Passport and documents, all medication, electronics and chargers, valuables, and one full change of clothes. Those are the things you cannot quickly replace at your destination, and a delayed bag typically takes 24 to 48 hours to catch up with you.
Can I share the list I have configured?
Yes. Your choices are stored in the page's web address, so copying the URL from your browser and sending it to someone opens exactly the same list for them. The items you tick off are saved in your own browser only, and are not part of the shared link.
How much sunscreen should I take?
A full-body application for one adult is about 30 to 35ml. Applied twice a day for a week, that is roughly 500ml per person — around five standard travel bottles. Running out mid-trip is one of the most common packing miscalculations.
