Festival packing list

Assume mud, no power, no shade and no signal. A festival list is mostly about staying dry, keeping your phone alive, and being able to find your own tent in the dark.

What's different about this trip

Everything gets wet, so plan the recovery

Wellies and waterproofs are obvious. What's less obvious is spare socks — more pairs than days — and a dry bag holding one complete change of clothes that never comes out until you genuinely need it. Wet feet for three days is how a good weekend turns miserable, and it's entirely preventable with two hundred grams of spare socks.

You will not charge anything

Charging tents exist, have queues measured in hours, and cost money. Bring a power bank sized for the whole weekend, put the phone in low-power mode from the start, and agree a physical meeting point and time with your group — because signal at a festival site collapses under the load regardless of how many bars the phone shows.

Find your tent again

Ten thousand identical tents in a field look exactly the same at 2am. A flag, a tall inflatable, or a distinctive object on a pole makes yours findable. Take a photo of the nearest landmark and note the row when you pitch. This sounds trivial until it's raining and you've been walking the same field for forty minutes.

The rules and the cash

Almost every festival bans glass entirely, and many restrict bag sizes at arena entrances — check both before you pack rather than at the gate, where confiscation is the only option offered. Bring some cash: card readers at independent food stalls fail regularly when the site network is saturated. And sunscreen, because a field has no shade and people forget that a cloudy festival still burns.
