Two-week Europe packing list

For two weeks across several European cities, pack one week of clothes and plan a laundry stop. The binding constraint isn't the wardrobe — it's the bag you'll carry up a fourth-floor walk-up with no lift.

What's different about this trip

The bag moves, so choose it for the stairs

A multi-city trip means your luggage gets lifted onto train racks, dragged over cobblestones, and carried up the staircase of an apartment whose listing did not mention the lift. A bag you can carry for ten minutes beats a bag you can only wheel. This is the single decision that shapes the whole trip.

One wash, not two wardrobes

Seven days of clothes plus one laundry stop covers fourteen. Almost every European city has self-service laundrettes, and most apartment rentals have a machine. Budget two hours in the middle of the trip on a day you'd have spent walking anyway, and carry half the weight for the entire fortnight.

Three plug types, not one

Type C two-pin covers most of the continent, but the UK and Ireland use Type G and Switzerland uses Type J, which the standard European plug does not fit. If your route crosses those borders, a universal adapter or a second plug is the difference between a charged phone and a hunt for a shop.

North to south is a 15-degree swing

Stockholm and Seville in the same fortnight is a real range, and the shoulder seasons make it wider. Pack a layering system rather than a season: t-shirts, a mid layer, and a light rain jacket handles almost everything, with a scarf that covers church shoulders and cold train carriages equally.
